Geoff Hawksworth of Boulder, Colorado announced a new open water swim series in the Rocky Mountains. “The Mountain Swim Series aims to promote fitness and health through open water swimming,” he explains. “The Solstice Swim is on June 20th, the Carter Lake Crossing is on July 11th, and the Chatfield Classic is on August 8th.”
The 3-part Mountain Swim Series includes the following races:
The Solstice Swim – Mountain Swim Series Event 1 is held in Longmont, Colorado at Union Reservoir on June 20th (1,524 meters or 5,000 feet):
* 1.2-mile swim with a 1-hour time limit starting at 6 pm for swimmers 13 years and older
* 2.4-mile swim with a 2-hour time limit starting at 6 pm for swimmers 16 years and older
* 500-meter fun swim with a 20-minute time limit, non-competitive, not timed, no minimum age
The Carter Lake Crossing – Mountain Swim Series Event 2 is held in Carter Lake Reservoir in Loveland, Colorado on July 11th:
* 3-mile timed competitive swim with a 2.5-hour time limit starting at 8 am for swimmers 16 years and older
The Chatfield Classic – Mountain Swim Series Event 3 is held in Hatfield Lake in Littleton, Colorado on August 8th:
* 1.2-mile competitive swim with a 1-hour time limit starting at 7 am for swimmers 13 years and older
* 2.4-mile competitive swim with a 2-hour time limit starting at 7 am for swimmers 16 years and older
* 500-meter fun swim with a 20-minute time limit, non-competitive, not timed, no minimum age
