Swimmers Walking The Red Carpet

Spread the love

Olympic swimmers including gold medalists and world record holders John Naber, Bruce Furniss, Janet Evans, Brian Goodell, Jeff Ferrell, John Moffett, Gary Hall Sr., and John Kinsella walked the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of Young Woman and the Sea this may. The Disney movie was about the life and English Channel crossing of Gertrude Ederle – played by Daisy Ridley.

Ederle’s iconic crossing of the English Channel in 1926 was at the core of the movie.

Ederle swam in the same era as Mercedes Gleitze whose life was depicted in Vindication Swim, an independent film directed by Elliott Hasler that starred Kirsten Callaghan and told the story of the first British woman to cross the English Channel and later became the first person to cross the Strait of Gibraltar.

Masters swimmers and open water swimmers were able to walk the red carpet at the initial screening shown at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California where they had lots of fun playing Hollywood for a night.
