SwimLife.Taiwan is hosted a 10 km ocean swim from the mainland of Taiwan to the volcanic Guishan Island, located 10 km from the northeast corner of the island on July 5th: Swim Challenge to Guishan Island.
A unique part of the island is a very distinct, bright blue color and sulphur scent that is caused by underwater thermal vents where hot sulphuric water streams out to the colder ocean.
When the wind blows towards the mainland, the sulphur odor can be smelled on the mainland. When the winds are right, local children say the turtle is farting.
