The Aeolian Islands are a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily.

Stefano Salvatori is a water polo player and a documentary filmmaker from Geo & Geo who completed the first crossing of the unprecedented Traversata delle Eolie a nuoto: sulla rotta delle tartarughe, a solo stage swim that connects the 7 islands of the Aeolian Archipelago.

He swam the 14.5 km stage from Alicudi to Filicudi in 6 hours.
