
It is time to swim on high … in the highest competitive open water swimming event in the world on Lago Titicaca that lies on the borders of Bolivia and Peru in the Andes Mountains.
Diego Cisneros explains, “We are pleased to announce the official date of the International Open Water Swimming Tournament Yampupata – Isla del Sol – Isla de la Luna. This exciting event will take place on May 10th 2025 in the majestic Lake Titicaca, in La Paz, Bolivia.
Prepare yourself for a unique experience, swimming in the crystal-clear and sacred waters of the highest navigable lake in the world, surrounded by stunning landscapes and a rich cultural history.
This will be our XIX edition, and we want you to join us in this epic adventure. Mark the date on your calendar, start preparing your gear, and organize your trip in advance to be part of this international competition that brings together the best high-altitude swimmers from around the globe.”
There are two events in the lake at 3,811 meters (12,503 feet) above sea level:
- 7.5 km race from the Isla del Sol to the Isla de la Luna
- 10 km race is from Yampupata to the Isla del Sol to the Isla de la Luna

The 2024 race was held on May 11th. Swims in Lake Titicaca are part of the Stillwater 8, a solo marathon swimming challenge created by Michelle Macy:

- Lake Zürich in Switzerland
- Lake Tahoe in USA
- Lake Taupo in New Zealand
- Lake Ontario in Canada
- Lake Titicaca, in Bolivia
- Lake Malawi in Malawi, Africa
- Sea of Galilee in northwest Israel
