In 2018, Netflix streamed a documentary series call 7 Days Out that documented scenes from large events around the world [see trailer above]. The series showcased the logistics, operations, problems, timelines, and stress faced by the organizers and employees of major events, ranging from the Kentucky Derby horse race to the Westminster Dog Show.
Share your own story of Seven Days Before.
Retell your experiences seven days before your professional marathon swim, Olympic 10K Marathon Swim, world championship events, ice swimming competition, Ice Mile, winter swim, circumnavigation swim. high-altitude swim, channel crossing or marathon swim, stage swim, wild swim, night swim, or first-ever open water swim of any distance.
Chronicle your logistics, travel plans and snafus, food, hydration, equipment, and swimsuit choices, taper details, waiting period, discussions with escort pilots and support crews, decisions made during your swim window, weather problems and opportunities, illnesses and injuries, worries and stresses, finances and family issues up until your first step off the shore or dive off the starting pontoon.
Describe your swims – before your first stroke – in as much detail as you wish. Illustrate with photos and videos to capture your behind-the-scenes of your open water swims. This will help educate, enthuse, and entertain all those who similarly venture beyond the shorelines where you have previously swum – successfully or not.
Swimmers know the challenges of crossing from shore to shore, racing against others, and the experience of swimming in a new body of water in a new location. But seven days before, there are all kinds of other dryland and in-water experiences that are also interesting and important to share with others in the open water swimming community.
Email your information about your story to Steven Munatones via headcoach@opewatersource.com. I will follow up with each swimmer willing to share their story Seven Days Before.
For reference purposes, the following is a type of an article that shares a little bit what Andreas Waschburger and his team experienced seven days before his record crossing of the Molokai Channel: Anatomy of a Record across Molokai – The Story of Andreas Waschburger.
