The legacy of Fran Crippen, an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame inductee and the only swimmer to die during a FINA competition (of any discipline), lives on.

At the University of Virginia vs. University of North Carolina dual meet, senior Ted Schubert set the pool record in the 400-yard individual medley in 3:45.99, breaking Virginia alumnus Crippen’s record from 2003.
