Spread the love

Melinda Kemp, Nick Owen, Ingilby Dickson, David Verlinden and Sam Paynter attempted the first two-way crossing of Port Phillip Bay, at the treacherous rip at the heads in Melbourne, Australia.

It was an unprecedented – and successful – group swim of 7.8 km that took 2 hours 22 minutes between Point Nepean and Pt Lonsdale on January 27th.

Paynter recalled, “5 of us took on the Port Phillip Bay Heads. A seal took a close look at us in the middle of the channel which sharpened up our focus and the boys in blue gave us a a hurry along too. [It was] a great swim and one for the bucket.”
