Start line – anxious, scared, excited
For each yard tackled today, miles were recited
You are an open water warrior.
First miles – patience, smooth, settle
Embrace the sunrise from sea level
A pallet of deep blues, cool greens and orange hues
You are an open water warrior.
Half way – fatigued, doubting, tired
Thoughts of friends, legends, accomplishment inspire
Pull, pull, breath, pull, pull breathe
Half way through, hours remain – believe
You are an open water warrior.
Last miles -question, suffering, pain
A map plots your course, no walls, Ts, or lane
Dig deeper, streamline, these are the moments that define
You are an open water warrior.
Finish line – achievement, pride, emotion
Creek, river, lake, channel, sea, ocean
You are an open water warrior.
A great poem by Brandon Sullivan (with future open water swimmer in his arms)
