Erica Rose, the 1998 5 km world champion, and John Van Wisse talked with five-time Manhattan Island Marathon Swim champion Shelley Taylor-Smith before the 2011 MIMS race.
MIMS, now called 20 Bridges, a 45.9 km circumnavigation swim around Manhattan Island in New York City, has been completed by over 1,300 swimmers since Robert Dowling first completed in 1915. The June 2011 race was a competitive race won by Rose.
