International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame chairperson Ned Denison asked me about some of the most impactful sights that I had experienced in covering the sport of open water swimming since the late 1970’s.
Initially as a teenager for Swimming World Magazine and then later at the Summer Olympics, World Championships, and World Cup events as well as marathon swimming relays and solo swims of all sorts as well as stage swims, ice swims, and ocean races from Fiji and Tahiti to Copacabana Beach to Athens, it has been a joy to observe and witness swimmers of all ages and abilities.
But in this talk, I explain my experiences with Penny Palfrey in the Cayman Islands, Diana Nyad in the Straits of Florida, and all the athletes including Natalie du Toit, Keri-Anne Payne, Cassandra Patten, Larisa Ilchenko, and Maarten van der Weijden at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
