Talk about a full schedule. Martina Grimaldi of Italy not only won the 2013 FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup series, but she also competed on the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix circuit and finished third overall.
Combined with her domestic races in Italy and her tough 2013 FINA World Championship schedule in Barcelona, Grimaldi certainly put in the mileage in the water, at the pool, and in the air traveling from Italy to Brazil, Israel, Canada, Spain, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, and Macedonia.
She had highs – from winning the 25 km world championships in Barcelona – and lows – missing the final chute in Lac Memphremagog – throughout her 2013 open water swimming campaign, but Grimaldi was always there at her training sessions, at the starting line, in the lead pack, and finishing among the leaders.
