59th Edition of the Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli in 2024

For decades, the Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli was either the premier professional marathon swimming competition or one of the major competitions on the professional marathon swimming circuit. Under the leadership and vision of race director Luciano Cotena, an Honor Administrator in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, the race has expanded to different competition dates for amateurs as well as the season-ending professional race held in early September.

As the sport has grown. Cotena has judiciously and professionally evolved the Italian classic marathon swim.

Amateur soloists and relayed challenged themselves over the rough water 36 km course over the last several weeks, racing from the island of Capri to the mainland in Napoli. The professional race will be held on September 7th.

51-year-old Kirsten Cameron, New Zealand was the fastest time in 7 hours 51 minutes and won the third competition of the 59th annual event. Alexandre Bermond of France won the first competition in 8 hours 12 minutes and Emre Erdogan of Turkey won the second competition in 8 hours 1 minute.

Cameron could not make it to Italy last year, but she made up for her absence with a commanding victory over the entire field and nearly 44 minutes over the first man, Hampus Carlsson of Sweden. Capri-Napoli was her third major marathon swimming victory of her career. In 2018, she won the 13 km Lake Geneva Classic in Switzerland and the 26.4 km International Self-Transcendence Marathon Swim in 2022.
