FINA Aquatics World Magazine selected Thomas Lurz and Keri-Anne Payne as its Open Water Swimming Athletes of the Year based on a vote by its 202 National Member Federations, media and aquatic experts:

Thomas and Keri-Anne continued their sweep of the awards season based on their outstanding performances at the world championships and overall dominance from the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup series (won by Thomas) to the Midmar Mile (won by Keri-Anne).

Onwards to the Olympic year.
