
Janez Maroević will represent the Faros Maratón at the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Long Beach, California this weekend.
Maroević, a native of Split, Croatia, has been working with the Faros Maratón and Croatian International Long Distance Swimming Championship since 1990 and has been the General Secretary since 1997. He has published the World Faros Marathon monograph that brings alive the swim in print and pictures.
The Faros Maratón is being honored as an Honour Organisation by the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame for its dedication and support of the sport of marathon swimming. Vicko Šoljan is also being honored for his work. Maroević will accept his recognition on his behalf.

The multi-lingual Maroević knows deeply about marathon sports and what the athletes go through to prepare and compete in the annual 16km race. During his peak, he was one of the best marathon runners of all time in Croatia, a 6-time Croatian national champion with over 100 victories over the course of his career. In 2004, Croatian National Television broadcast a movie called The Marathon Runner about his life, career and engagement in organizing of the Faros Maratón.
