Jack Carr (@JackCarrUSA) is a #1 New York Times bestselling author and former Navy SEAL sniper who wrote The Terminal List, True Believer, Savage Son, The Devil’s Hand, In the Blood, Only the Dead, Red Sky Mourning, Targeted: Beirut.

His debut novel, The Terminal List, was adapted into the #1 Amazon Prime Video series starring Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Chris Pratt. He is also the host of the popular podcast Danger Close where he recently spoke with John Doolittle, CAPT, USN (Ret) [listen above]. The two friends spent a lot of time on beaches and oceans around the world, often cold, sleep-deprived, and in precarious situation.

Doolittle was Carr’s BUD/S Class Officer in Charge and a retired Navy SEAL Captain with over 25 years of service, including leading elite teams in deployments across the globe and spearheading the Preservation of the Force and Family program at Special Operations Command. He swam across the English Channel in memory of a fallen teammate, currently raising funds for the Navy SEAL Foundation, and serves as a co-founder of the 5 km Tampa Bay Frogman Swim in Florida. Now in its 16th year, it is one of America’s Top 100 Open Water Swims and among of the highest grossing charity swims in the world. despite only 150 swimmers (due to safety reasons).

Doolittle talks about the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim in a recent Danger Close podcast [listen here]. The event will be held tomorrow morning.

Organizer Kurt Ott explains, “We are a group of motivated individuals, driven by a passion to support the Navy SEAL Foundation and families of those men who have given their lives in defense of our freedom. The proceeds to the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim will be used to provide injury assistance to Navy SEALs and tragedy assistance for families who have lost a loved one in training or combat. Our goal is to provide support for the Naval Special Warfare Community and perpetuate the history and heritage of the U.S. Naval Commandos.

The Tampa Bay Frogman Swim strives to build national awareness of the Naval Special Warfare community and support the Navy SEAL Foundation whose mission is to provide immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and their families.  The swim presents a challenging endeavor to provide a small reminder of the hardships endured by our elite and silent warriors while encouraging others to support and donate to the cause.”

Doolittle and his colleagues are hosting about 100 members of Gold Star Families this weekend in Tampa Bay. “On January 19th, we’ll participate in the 5 km swim across Tampa Bay, a small challenge compared to what our naval special operators endure in their sacrifice for our country.

Amount of Donations

Year after year, the event – with only 150 swimmers – raises over US$1 million, a significant feat for the relatively small number of participants.
