To our knowledge, the aQuellé Midmar Mile in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa is the open water swimming event in the world that annually gives away a free vehicle to one lucky winner. Race director Wayne Riddin gives away a Toyota and randomly selects 10 individuals for the grand prize finale.

Each swimmer gets a key and is given the opportunity to unlock the Toyota.

The person whose key opens the car door and starts the car…can drive away with the free vehicle.

That grand opportunity is one more reason to travel to participate in the aQuellé Midmar Mile, the world’s largest competitive open water swimming event, one of the 2014-2015 World Open Water Swimming Series events.
