The HiBot ACM-R5H is an amphibious 1.75-meter snake robot developed by the Tokyo Institute of Technology…with a camera in its head (module). Thinking about future applications in the open water swimming world, the amphibious robot could serve a purpose by seeking out swarms of jellyfish (or curious sharks) ahead of swimmers (either on a practice swim or a Cook Strait or Hawaiian Islands crossing) in order to alert the crew and swimmers in advance to either change their course…or be ready to be stung.
