Italian Aquaman Gregorio Paltrinieri Wins his 13th European Title

Spread the love

Earlier in the day Ginevra Taddeucci (27, Italy, World Aquatics bio here, @ginevrataddeucci) won her first European title in the women’s 5 km race at the 2025 European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Championships in Stari Grad, Croatia.

Later on in the afternoon under worsening conditions, Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri (World Aquatics bio here, @greg_palt) had to work especially hard on a modified course to capture his 13th career European title in both the open water and the pool.

It was a tough battle for the 30-year-old Italian star, battling and positioning himself among and, ultimately, ahead of the two best swimmers from Hungary, 21-year-old Olympic bronze medalist Dávid Betlehem (World Aquatics bio here, @betlehemdavid) and 27-year-old fellow Olympic gold medalist Kristóf Rasovszky (World Aquatics bio here, @kristofrasovszky).

At 3:30 pm with relatively little rest, they will race again in the 1 km Second Round head, and then they will most likely face off one more time at the 4:00 pm 500m Final.
