Matteo Testa, a swimmer and triathlete, also uses his creativity to organize the annual SwimTheIsland event in the protected national marine reserve located in Bergeggi, Italy.
Described as the ultimate sea water experience, the SwimTheIsland event attracts hundreds from around Europe and Africa to its 1.7 km, 3.5 km and 5 km races.
The athletes – some with wetsuits, others withouts, some fast, others not, some young, others older – swim to the Isola di Bergeggi and along the beautiful coastline of Bergeggi’s Riserva Naturale Regionale. “The conditions have varied from smooth and tranquil in the first year to rough and wavy last year,” explains Testa. “And every year, we are improving and enhancing the event that will have 3 distances: 1.7 km, 3.5 km and 5 km. Our goal in 2013 is to attend the number of about 1000 – 1200 participants. The race is already the biggest event in Italy.”
The event will be announced soon here at www.swimtheisland.com.
