Walk down Shakespeare Beach, a shingle beach in Dover, or up Terranea Beach in Rancho Palos Verdes, California at the end of a Catalina Channel crossing, and walking can be a bit tricky on the rocky shoreline.

On Hailuoto Island, that is located between Sweden and Finland, Marjaniemi Beach saw an icy version of a rocky beach. Local photographer Risto Mattila took a photo of a rare occurrence when thousands of ice balls covered the shoreline, some the size of soccer balls.
