Henley Classic Postponed To July 8th

On Saturday 23rd June The Henley Classic was postponed from June 23rd to July 8th. The action was taken on the advice of the Environment Agency and the swim safety team.

Jeremy Laming explained, “I took a call from the Environment Agency duty officer informing me that an unexpected volume of water triggered Amber boards on the Henley reach, meaning that the Environment Agency advice was that no unpowered craft should take to the water.

This meant that our safety Kayakers could not take to the water, thereby making it impossible to hold the swim.”

Without the expected safety levels guaranteed, Laming said, “We were faced with no option but to postpone the event.”

The Henley Classic will now be held before another scheduled event, The Henley Mile, on July 8th. “The details have yet to be finalised; however, we can confirm that the Classic will take place at 4:30 in the morning, and will consist of the same waves as originally planned. This will include the Elite Race, which has attracted some high quality entries from across the country.”
