Gustavo Lores from Lima led a team of 11 swimmers to attempt the first 40 km two-way crossing of the Bay of Callao in Perú. He explained, “It was a challenge celebrating the 200 years of independence of Perú. It took me 12 hours: 5 hours for the first leg and 7 hours to return in a battle with the currents. We swim in support of couples that are fighting to have a baby. 11 swimmers were part of this event. Six completed the challenge: two swimmers swam without a wetsuit and fins and four swimmers swam with wetsuit on and fins. It was an important day in the open water swimming history of Perú.”
