Ger Kennedy On Aging Well, With Seriousness and Smiles

Spread the love

The unfathomable. The unprecedented. The unexpected. The unbelievable. That is typically the kind of open water expeditions that Ireland’s Ger Kennedy (56, Ireland, IISA bio here, @gerkennedy_swimmer)get involved with or participates in.

Kennedy – whose nicknames include Ice SherpaDr. Ice, and King Walrus – travels the globe, always seemingly a mix of good-natured fun and intense seriousness when planning, talking, or executing ice swimming or stage swimming or extreme swimming expeditions around the world – which is a vital essence of his successes, both as an athlete and expedition leader, usually way off the beaten path. He explains his mindset, “We do hard-core stuff, but we also have great fun and we enjoy the company. We have a few beers and we laugh at each other.”

National Geographic Magazine noticed.

The magazine featured Kennedy among aging endurance athletes in this month’s article, How to start aging like an athlete.
