California is a great training ground for swims from the English Channel to the North Channel with its rough water and beautifully bioluminescence along its long coastline in the Pacific Ocean. Chad Hundeby (7 hours 17 minutes), Penny Dean (7:40) Paul Asmuth (8:12, 8:34, 9:05), Jim McConica (8:39), John York (8:52), Lynne Cox (9:36, 9:57) and many other channel swimmers have trained in its waters before heading off to the mecca of distance swimming.
