Firas Moualla Pioneered Swim From Cyprus To Syria

Firas Moualla is a graduate of Damascus University and is the Secretary-General of the Olympic Committee in Syria. The Syrian open water swimmer culminated his prolific career with a 124 km solo swim from the island of Cyprus to Latakia City along the Syrian coast in 2007.

The 77-mile swim on September 22nd 2007 took Moualla 42 hours 0 minutes and was his second attempt after his first unsuccessful attempt on September 11th along a planned course of 112 km. The swim puts him at #21 in history’s rankings of the longest swims in the world (see here).
