The organizers of the 2017 FINA World Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico announced that the Open Water Swimming (5 km solo, 5 km team pursuit, 10 km and 25 km competitions) and High Diving events will be held 200 km away in the coastal city of Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, part of the Mexican Riviera, also hosted the 2011 Pan American Games.
