Diana Nyad Goes For 5th Attempt From Cuba To Florida

Spread the love

Diana Nyad has started on her fifth attempt across the Florida Straits.

Follow her 103-mile attempt as are CNN, CBS, and a wide host of media outlets around the world here.

Her 35-member escort crew is providing regular updates, but she knows that the sunset will bring box jellyfish up from the depths. If her new fully protective gear proves to serve as an effective barrier against the barbs of the box jellyfish, then she stands a chance of realizing her life-long dream of swimming from Cuba to Florida.

Over the estimated 3 days of swimming in the Florida Strait, Nyad will hydrate and feed frequently. Niek Kloots of the Netherlands pointed out the FINA rules regarding feeding:

OWS 6.14 No objects can be thrown from the feeding platform to the swimmers, including sustenance. The swimmers shall receive their feeding directly from their representative by a feeding pole or by hand.
