Mariah Denigan, who trains at Ohio State University, was well prepared for the 2026 USA Swimming Open Water National and Junior National Championships in Sarasota, Florida this week.
She won the 10 km race over Brinkleigh Hansen on Thursday.
She won the 3 km Knockout Sprints over on Friday.
Similar to her male colleague Ivan Puskovitch, she won the 5 km today, going three-for-three in a clean sweep of the national championships – – a three-peat feat perhaps never been accomplished before this year.
It is clear Denigan and Puskovitch are the crème de la crème of USA Swimming’s open water swimming community. While they did not perform as well as they hoped in the 2024 Paris Olympics (when they were not allowed to practice in the Seine unlike the other national team members), they are intent on making up for lost opportunities.
They will both lead the USA Swimming national open water teams in a tour of Europe, competing on the World Cup stage and then culminate their summer plans on August 10th in Long Beach, California at the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships 10 km race against the Australians, Japanese, and Canadians.
