David Burke Swims Across Lough Neagh

Newry disabled swimmer David Burke completed a 12.4 km swim in 19°C water across Lough Neagh from The Battery in Ardboe, County Tyrone to the Headland west of Crumlin, Aldergrove, County Antrim in Northern Ireland on September 10th in 4 hours 52 minutes. The one-legged swimmer crossed with the assistance of David Rodgers and Barry Duffy on his escort boat with Noel Grimes helping him prepare, and his wife Martina Mcgarvey on shore waiting with the help of Infinity Channel Swimming and Piloting Services.

Other swimmers who have crossed the Lough Neagh include Mercedes Gleitze (in 1929), Gerard Martin, Joe Belton, Dean Owen, Alison O’Hagan, Gordan Hamill, and Francie McAlinden.
