Georgian Bay is the body of water to the east of Lake Huron.
Pam Lazzarotto was swimming on the western side of the Bay near Midland during a dark, dreary day when water was “blackish and kind of spooky. It’s black due to the black volcanic rocks – part of the Canadian Shield.”
Her friends acquired an island in the middle of the Bay so Lazzarotto decided to go swimming. “It takes about 12 minutes to swim around. There are strong currents in the open water, but it is calm and warmer in the sheltered side of islands.”
With a paddler, the Canadian will get more adventurous. “I want to swim to the many other small islands in the Bay.”
