Open water swimmers can be quite talkative on terra firma. Trapped in the marine environment, It was truly an honor to be in the company of so many impressive athletes. Congrats on putting together such a great event both at the Queen Mary & Marine stadium.
I had some significant muscle soreness on my left side that I never had before post-race. I think I really altered my kick and body position to compensate for the salt water, using muscles differently than I did normal. Yet another contributing factor to my energy crash. Overall though, feeling OK today, and not too dissappointed about backing off the 10k…I think it was the right thing to do on that day, but I know I’ve got a 10k in my. I count myself very lucky to be in a position where I can consider a 5k swim a “failure”.
We had a great time exploring your beautiful city on Monday. We stumbled upon a great place for breakfast…A nightclub called Lush, located adjacent to a mini-market. I think they are new to serving breakfast as we were the only people in the joint and the staff seemed overly eager to please us. But they had a kick-ass breakfast burrito. We took in the aquarium and a whale cruise…no whales but a “pod” of 200 dolphins splashing around together…absolutely breathtaking. Then we finished the day at the Yard House for some much deserved beers.
The Marie taping yesterday was a fun, surreal experience. Her featured guest was Donnie Osmond, and he spent at least 5 minutes hanging out with me back stage, very cool guy. Marie was very nice too, but a bit too busy to spend any time with us off-set, which is totally understandable, that is one hard working woman. I think my episode will air Thanksgiving week.
Thanks again for everything.Copyright © 2012 by Open Water Source
