Coach Gerry Returns to Start Up Tower 26 for Summer 2024

Spread the love

We know summer in California is coming up with the return of Coach Gerry Rodrigues and the Tower 26 ocean workouts.

Coach Chris begins tomorrow at Redondo Beach at 7:30 am while Coach Gerry will initiate the Tower 26 ocean workouts in Santa Monica Beach next Wednesday at 6:00 am. There are 44 potential coached sessions this 2024 summer season.

Coach Gerry explains, “At times, unsafe conditions may cause a cancelled workout. We will email ahead to notify if that’s the case, or, if it’s a super heavy fog day, we will make that safety call at the workout.

After 41 years of doing this job, and swimming in the Southern California ocean since 1973, I’ve learned patience, waiting for ocean temperatures to stabilize over 60°F (15.5°C). I’ll still make an incorrect call at times, but generally we nail it right on. Ocean conditions can be unpredictable as demonstrated with the sewage spill last week, and high winds the prior week that dropped temps to 57-58°F. But I think we are good to go now.

You’ll need to be registered to attend our beach sessions, starting with the first one. Registration is posted at www.tower26.com.

Wetsuits are required for beginners and recommended for all. You need a minimum skill-set to attend these sessions. That detail is a laid-out on the registration page. For questions, please email: contact@tower26.com.

Please check-in with Brian when you arrive so he can give you the season’s swim cap which will be pink this year. You’ll need to wear that at our workouts. If you are attending a single session, please still check-in with Brian and pay the single session US$20 cash fee. No caps are given for single session swims.

Sunday’s Redondo Beach Forecast:

  • Water temp: 61°F
  • Surf: 2-3 feet
  • Wind: 3 knots SW
  • Tide: high at 8:03 am
  • Weather: 57°Fs, partly cloudy.
  • Good conditions to start the season

Tower 26 was nominated for the 2018 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year by Steven Munatones, “Tower 26 is a lifeguard station in Santa Monica, California. Gerry Rodrigues combined this local gathering place for triathletes with his deep knowledge of open water swimming to create the TOWER 26 team and brand from Pacific Palisades in Southern California. Rodrigues, a masters world open water swimming champion, has fashioned a lifestyle and knowledge-base that has taken the triathlon world by storm. TOWER 26 also produced over 60 “Be Race Ready” podcasts that have been downloaded over 680,000 times. Rodrigues and co-host Jim Lubinski, cover all aspects of triathlon swimming, training and race preparation for triathletes who represent the largest demographic group in the open water swimming community. For sharing innumerable tips and approximately 40 hours of free advice via the “Be Race Ready” podcast – the world’s most popular triathlon swimming podcast, for shaping a simple lifeguard station into a globally-known brand, for tirelessly and passionately coaching over 1,000 swimmers and triathletes monthly, TOWER 26 by Gerry Rodrigues is a worthy nominee for the 2018 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year.
