Christie Plank Ciraulo has been on the top of her age group for decades, both in the pool and open water.

And 2014 was no different for one of the fastest swimming women in the planet and member of the Mighty Mermaids.

The 60-year-old dynamo from the UCLA Bruin Masters Swim Club kicked off the 2014 U.S. Masters Swimming National Championships with a 12:05.86 in the 1000-yard freestyle which would have either won or placed her in the top 6 in every age group among women in their 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s. Her other victories in the 500-yard freestyle (5:58.12) and 200-yard backstroke (2:37.98) were also nearly as impressive relative to her younger competitors.

Her speed will undoubtedly bode well for her in the upcoming open water swim season.
