Chris Palfrey and Christie Leet completed their 21K swim from Hamilton to the Queensland mainland among the Australian Whitsunday group of islands.

We were treated to the sight of dolphins, green turtles and schools of mackerel feeding on bait fish. After our start in Hamilton, we rounded the southern tip of Dent island, before heading towards Long island and finishing at Shute harbour, next to the jetty from which tourist boats depart to the many island resorts. Conditions were generally good with a following breeze. But we were affected in places by adverse currents which slowed us considerably and received large numbers of minor jellyfish stings.”

Chris’ 6 hour and 19 minute swim was his fourth unprecedented swim of 2011.

He previously became the first swimmer to complete the South Molle to Airlie Beach swim (with Christie Leet), the Saunders Beach to Rattlesnake island swim, and the Orpheus Island to Taylors Beach swim in Halifax Bay).
