Eva Fabian’s 2.5K splits in her victorious 5K world championship swim were 31:15 and 30:46. Silver medalist Giorgia’s splits were 31:22 and 30:39 respectively. They were closely followed by a trio, battling for the bronze medal, Ana Marcela Cunha just barely edged (1:02:01.1) Brazilian teammate Poliana Okimoto (1:02:02.8) and American Christine Jennings (1:02:02.8).

Shelley Taylor-Smith, the first female Chief Referee in world open water swimming championship history, had to examine the finish frame-by-frame to determine the final placing of Ana Marcela, Poliana and Christine.
