Doug Woodring reported on the 14.5K Clean Half Extreme Swim that was televised in Hong Kong this weekend.

“It was an excellent day on the water once again.”

“With many boats to organize for support, rough winds welcomed the swimmers at the start. The swells were a challenge.”

“Many swimmers took wide lines around the point, while others hugged the cliffs and body surfed their way to a faster finish.”

13-year-old Fiona Chan won the solo category – finishing third overall in 3 hours and 40 minutes – with swimmers coming from Hong Kong, China, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. Jaspas Tritons won the relay division in 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Doug later reminded the athletes and their supporters of the Hong Kong Government’s pledge to ban trawling from all Hong Kong waters. “This is one of the most significant environmental step for ocean protection in Hong Kong that we could dream for, so we need to show our support.”
