She did it again.
The Katie Ledecky of the Ice, 29-year-old Alisa Fatum-Böker of Germany dominates the distance freestyle events in the ice similarto the 14-time American Olympic medalist dominates her competition in the pool.
The odds-on pre-race favorite to win her fourth world title in the Ice Kilometer in Molveno, Italy, Fatum-Böker won the Ice Kilometer by over 30 seconds.
Fatum-Böker came upon the ice swimming scene in Veitsbronn when she set her first Ice Kilometer world record in January 2019. She won the Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere German Open in 12:48.70 swimming in 1.4°C water and 2.0°C air.
Then she won the IISA 3rd World Championship Ice Kilometer in Murmansk, Russia in 13:02.39 in 0.0°C water and -6.30°C air, at the IISA 4th World Championship in Glogów, Poland in 13:06.18 in 3.0° water and 1.5°C air, and at the IISA 5th World Championship in Samoëns, France in 12:46.04 in 3.7°C water and 2.0°C air.
Her fourth world title was won at the IISA 6th World Championship in 13:03.74 in the 1.8°C water of Molveno with 18-year-old Jessika Robson of Ireland second.
Fatum-Böker’s victory preceded her German teammate’s similar victory over the men’s 500m field. Andreas Waschburger won in 5:41.97, but Fatum-Böker’s time of 6:09.58 was especially impressive as she would have captured third place overall among the top men with her time. The duo repeated their victories in the 500m freestyle at the IISA 5th World Championship.

In the ICE Pain Cave I went for 15 minutes and 53 seconds, and out of the pool, I was thrilled and chilled. Huge thanks to Heidi Brynn and Vera Rivard for the rewarming party, and the Frozen Ferns for the fantastic post swim support. Big shout out to Pam Ladds and the Shark Bait Sheilas for joining me for some brutal training swims in Lake Willoughby in Vermont, such great race preparation.”
