World 25K champion and 2012 Olympian Alex Meyer is scheduled to shift from his rounds of international competitions to a local eco-swim, the Race for Salem Sound in Massachusetts this weekend. The annual 500-meter, 1-mile and 5K races also serve as the 2011 New England Open Water Championship Races where more than 200 swimmers from the ages of 8 to 68 are scheduled to participate.
The 1-mile event is a championship race for both USA Swimming and United States Masters Swimming. Alex will be defending his 5K title in the New England championship race.
