A Turn For The Worse Leads To Victory By Cara Baker

Cara Baker benefitted from an unexpected major navigational error by rival Charlotte Webby to won the women’s State Harbour Crossing.

Webby led Baker for most of the race only to swim to make an error 200 meters from the finish. She swam to the left of a turn buoy when should have swum to the right of it.

That allowed 22-year-old Baker to defend her win from last year. “It was really unfortunate for her; maybe it was my good fortune to go on the right side. I was certainly surprised to see the tape out for me not her, when I got out of the water.”
