Stig Severinsen, Ph.D. of Denmark holds the world record for holding his breath underwater, 22 minutes. He authored the book Breatheology and has a Ph.D. in medicine and a master’s degree in biology. He broke Wim Hof’s ice swimming record with a 96-second swim under the ice of 72 meters. The air temperature was 2°C and the water temperature was 38°C.
“The swim was very unpleasant. I’d never felt this kind of core cold. I just have the ability to shut down the sensory register for pain and discomfort. I am thankful for a good life I have enjoyed. I have discovered paradise on our beautiful planet over and over again…all due to my interest in nature. My life revolves around nature, sports and water.”
