Luis “Arturo” Batres Prado, MD (@arturob70), a 56-year-old open water swimmer, Ironman triathlete, marathon runner, and pediatrician, became the second known swimmer from Guatemala to cross the jumpy Molokai Channel.
Escorted by Michael Twigg-Smith (@the_platinum_five), the doctor is now tied with 53-year-old Yesenia Cabrera Fuegos, also of Guatemala, with four Oceans Seven swims in their careers. Cabrera has crossed the English Channel, Catalina Channel, Strait of Gibraltar, and Molokai Channel (in 2013 in 16 hours 50 minutes).
Arturo Batres’ Oceans Seven Journey (to date)
- October 2026: 45 km Molokai Channel from Make Horse Beach on Molokai Island to Oahu in 16 hours 2 minutes
- September 2024: 32.3 km Catalina Channel in 12 hours 16 minutes
- June 2025: 14.4 km Strait of Gibraltar in 4 hours 34 minutes
- September 2025: 33.5 km English Channel in 15 hours 40 minutes

Dr. Batres’ tracker is here across the confused, lumpy channel between Molokai and Oahu, ending at 5:56 pm on Monday evening. But by the time, Dr. Batres and crew returned to port in Honolulu, the full moon and calm seas had returned.
