Men Are Ready to Rumble at the USA Swimming National Open Water Championships

USA Swimming will hold its Open Water National and Junior National Championships in Sarasota, Florida, starting with the 10 km race on April 2nd.

The race is expected to be tight throughout the flat, calm-water course. There will be a slew of collegiate swimmers including Charlie Clark of Ohio State University, Luke Brennan and Joey Tepper of University of Minnesota, Joshua Brown of the University of Michigan, Aiden Hammer and Alexander Lyubavskiy of the University of Texas, Dylan Gravley of Arizona State University, 2024 Olympian Ivan Puskovitch, and Jacob Pishko of Louisiana State University, among others, who will figure into the mix. They have long competed against each other in the pool … separated by lane lines. Next week they will all have the opportunity to showcase their speed, stamina, and physicality in the 4-loop 10 km course at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.

Flat Will Be Fast

The tranquil course is the polar opposite of the highly technically challenging 10 km river course at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but during this Olympic quadrennial, major open water swimming competitions will often take place in flat, no-waves, no-currents waters. For example, the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships on August 10th will be held in a calm rowing course in Long Beach [see Marine Stadium on the left below] and the LA28 Olympic course will – perhaps – be held somewhere within the calm waters of the Long Beach Breakwater [see Belmont Shore on the right below].

Similar to the women’s race, will the collegiate veterans be able to hold off their hungry, younger teenage competitors?

Watch online.

All races (10 km, 5 km, 3 km Knockout Sprints) will be live-streamed on the USA Swimming Network (watch for free here).
