In and Out of the Cold at the 2025 Silbersee Ice-Cup

Race director and Ice Miler Florian Battermann hosted and organized the 2025 Silbersee Ice-Cup (@silberseeicecup) in Silbersee Langenhagen in northern Germany on November 29th – 30th. The water temperature was 5.3°C with an air temperature of 7.0°C in an early season competition.

Battermann served as the medical director, IISA official, and event director with the help of volunteers to oversee the 50m, 100m, 500m, and 1000m freestyle, 50m and 100m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly.

Lisa Holm was busy all day long, winning the 50m butterfly and the 250m freestyle, 500m freestyle, and 1000m freestyles while 19-year-old younger sister Melina Holm won the 50m and 100m breaststrokes.

Similarly, 20-year-old Kilian Graef was in and out of the cold water over the two-day event, winning the 50m butterfly, and 50m, 100m, 250m, and 500m freestyle events.

Tina Deeken, the lone para swimmer in the event, competed in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, and the 50m, 100m, and 250m freestyles. This season, she has now competed in the World Cup events in Scotland and the Netherlands [see below].

72-year-old Elke Ortloff swam the 50m butterfly and the 50m, and 250m, 500m and 1000m freestyles. She was the most active of the septuagenarians in the Ice-Cup, along with 73-year-old Joachim Rehberg, 74-year-old Gabi Jancke, and 72-year-old Monika Fricke.
