Dyson Dominates at the 2025 MPSF Open Water Swimming Championships

Spread the love

Ella Dyson (21, Great Britain, World Aquatics bio here) visited California for the first time in her life with her Rice University teammates.

Sunny skies and a good collegiate ambiance greeted the British swimmer Marlow, England (born in Melbourne, Australia) at the 2025 MPSF Open Water Swimming Championships in Long Beach.

Right from the start, the senior quickly took off and extended her lead throughout the 5 km race: strong, smooth, and smart. Dyson was the class of the field with her Rice teammate Ava Portello second and Kyra Rabess of Northern Colorado University finishing third.

With LA28 dreams in her future, she came out smiling and appreciative of the opportunity to race in Long Beach. As a senior, she has post-graduate plans to balance competing on the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup series with her masters degree studies in England. Her ultimate athletic goal is to represent Great Britain at the LA28 Olympic 10K marathon swim – just a short 10-minute drive from the Marine Stadium venue.

Her Rice coach Seth Huston is known for his passion for open water swimming and has attracted some of the finest women open water swimming in the collegiate ranks, leading the Rice women to a 2024 CSCAA Open Water Swimming National Championship title. He said, “Ella and Ava and their teammates push each other every day in practice.”
