The women’s and men’s 10 km European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Championships in Stari Grad, Croatia will be held on Wednesday this week. The 10 km race will be the first event of the four-day championships.

With eyes focused on the 2024 Paris Olympic 10 km finalists including bronze medalist Ginevra Taddeucci of Italy (World Aquatics bio here, @ginevrataddeucci) and fifth-place finisher Bettina Fábián of Hungary (World Aquatics bio here), it was Viktória Mihályvári Farkas (21, Hungary, World Aquatics bio here, @v_mihalyvari) who captured, rather comfortably, gold in a time of 1:57:27.54 over Tadeucci who finished in 1:57:30.35 and Germany’s Lea Boy (Germany, World Aquatics bio here, @lea_boy) who finished in 1:57:34.38.

The 21-year-old Hungarian was competing in only her second 10 km race – and immediately put her on the LA28 podium watch list with her ability to race in the open water. Her best times in the pool (2:04 in the 200m, 4:13 in the 400m, 8:30 in the 800m, and 16:02 in the 1500m), her tactical composure in a tightly packed race and finish sprint to emerge on top of the European Championship podium seem to be great exposure of her potential.
