Open Water Icons Honored At Iconix

Spread the love

Iconix Fitness has sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island from its facility on the Long Beach shoreline in Southern California.

Next to the 50m Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool, Iconix Fitness owner and visionary Kurt Schneiter knows the value of its location, “Sometimes there’s just no substitute for sand beneath your toes. Members can stash their stuff in the locker rooms and head out to 5 miles of beautiful beach for sun, surf, play and exercise. I’m not really trying to get you fit here — I want to make you happy. I’m selling a path to happiness.”

Those words ring so profoundly true to nearby open water swimming icons Hank Wise (57, USA, Marathon Swimmers Federation bio here), the former King of the Catalina Channel, and Lynne Cox (68, USA, Marathon Swimmers Federation bio here, @lynnecox20), the ice swimming pioneer.

Schneiter honored both Wise and Cox, as well as many other local aquatic athletes and watermen (from Tim Shaw to Tony Acevedo), throughout the Iconix Fitness location via paintings, a Wall of Fame, and a Hall of Fame / Guinness World Record alcove.
