Honor Administrators, The Force Multipliers In The Open Water Swimming World

Spread the love

An Honor Administrator is an individual who has been inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame due to their long-term achievements and behind-the-scenes organization of open water swimming competitions, associations, governing bodies, and events.

While Honor Swimmers may be more well-known and celebrated, it is the quiet hard work, meticulous management, and creative promotion of open water swimming that has long enabled the sport to survive and thrive.

From the early promotion of the Catalina Channel by William Wrigley, Jr. [shown below] to the more recent organization of the Olympic 10K Marathon Swims in Beijing, London, Rio, Tokyo, Paris, and Los Angeles by Sid Cassidy [shown above], these Administrators are relentless force multipliers.

Through their vision, planning, and expertise, their work as a single individual enhances the collective work of volunteers and local communities that makes the sport what it is today.

Through the utilization of technology and database programming as Evan Morrison [shown below] has done with the Marathon Swimmers Federation or Julian Critchlow [shown below] has done with the English Channel Swim Database, their work has literally touched, educated, and motivated hundreds of thousands of interested swimmers, and helped media representatives, sponsors, escort pilots, and event organizers.

Through the establishment and hosting of marathon swimming camps by Ned Denison with the Cork Distance Week [shown below] or organizing annual professional and amateur marathon swimming races by Lello Barbuto and Luciano Cotena in Italy or Lynn Blouin and George Duthie in Canada, literally the lives of thousands of swimmers have been enhanced.

Each and every one of these marathon swimming force multipliers has helped create a sport with a fantastic past and an ever promising future.
