Andreas Waschburger is Crowned King of the Ice with Another Ice Kilometer Title at IISA World Championship

25 km world champion Axel Reymond of France faced an old rival in the 1000m freestyle at the IISA 6th World Championship in Molveno, Italy.

But his 38-year-old German opponent, Andreas Waschburger, has been on a roll over the last year, setting records across both the English Channel and Molokai Channel. The defending King of the Ice swam his race to plan and won the Ice Kilometer as he did the 500m freestyle…by a comfortable margin over a trio of younger swimmers: Reymond, 31-year-old Reino von Wielligh of South Africa, and 23-year-old Jakub Kacerovsky of the Czech Republic.

His victory followed his Ice Kilometer victory of his fellow teammate Alisa Fatum-Böker to keep a German lock on the distance freestyle events at the IISA World Championship.
