Alberto Rodolfo Moreno Lemes, originally from Punta del Este, Uruguay, has planned and completed several marathon swims around and across the Canary Islands in Spain. He has twice swum 45 km between La Gomera and Tenerife, 16 km between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and 78 km between La Palma and La Gomera.

Moreno explains, “They were all non-stop, without neoprene, and with the constant stress of the cold water, the Canary Current and the prevailing trade winds.”

Today, the 56-year-old is attempting to swim more than 32 hours straight on an 8 km circuit between Playa del Duque and Diego Hernández Beach along Costa Adeje in Tenerife in the Canary Islands. He says, “I am doing this swim for personal satisfaction, for the love and passion that I have for this sport, and to motivate my students since I am a swimming coach and teacher and a lifeguard.”

He started at 8:00 am this Friday morning with an expected finish on Playa del Duque on Saturday, October 5th after 3:00 pm. His challenge will be visible along much of the beautiful Costa Adeje coastline.  His support team includes Félix PalmeroNieves LuisRicardo MorenoCésar ÁlvarezHéctor Montesino, and Julián Moreno.
